Carbon Bench
Inspiration for the Carbon bench came from a commission by the Duke of Devonshire for Chatsworth House. Made by casting ground coal into a mould, it references the 18th Century coal tunnel mines owned by the Devonshire family.
The Carbon Bench is part of a body of work collectively referred to as the Carbon Series. It explores the notion of carbon as the fundamental building block of all living things in the universe – what connects us in a material sense to other living beings and the world around us, and what we ultimately return to.
