Sandra Porter RWA studied at Somerset College of Art before taking a degree in Fine Art at Stourbridge College of Art. She achieved an MA in Fine Art Painting from Chelsea School of Art in 1981 and studied Printmaking with Dorothea Wight at Morley College in the 1990s.

After combining her practise as an artist with teaching from Secondary to University level for 30 years, Sandra has worked as a full time artist since 2012. Since then she has exhibited in the UK, New York City, France and in 2017 she had a solo show of Printmaking at The University of Pelotas, Centre de Arte in Brazil. She has recently been in receipt of awards from The Iona Foundation in Amsterdam and Arts Council Award for the Arts for her solo exhibition of Paintings, drawings and prints at Stroud Museum in the Park. A drawing has been on tour in the first Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize (formerly Jerwood Drawing Prize 2018 and Sandra will be exhibiting new work at Black Swan Arts in Somerset for the month of June 2019.
