The Barbican is marking 15 years of its association with dancer and choreographer Michael Clark with a major exhibition of his work, featuring beautifully eclectic portraits by legendary photographer Richard Haughton.
London 8th October 2020: A beautifully eclectic collection of photographs by world-renowned Irish photographer Richard Haughton is being showcased at The Barbican Centre as part of the first major exhibition of the work of iconic dancer and choreographer Michael Clark. The ‘Cosmic Dancer’ exhibition, which marks The Barbican’s 15-year association with Clark, explores his radical presence in British cultural history through moments captured in photographs by Haughton, as well as in an array of mixed media.
Limited-edition prints of Haughton’s portraits used in the ‘Cosmic Dancer’ exhibition will be available to purchase exclusively through art consultant, Katherine Maginnis: www.katherinemaginnis.com, from the 14th October. All limited-edition images can be printed to bespoke dimensions on Hahnemühle Fine Art Paper and will be signed by Richard Haughton.
The exhibition was unveiled on the 7th of October and is now open to the public from 11am to 7pm on weekdays, and from 10am to 7pm on weekends, running until the 3rd of January 2021. Haughton’s captivating images perfectly showcase Clark’s unique multidisciplinary approach and distinctive combination of punk, classical and contemporary culture.
An extensive selection of additional prints from Haughton’s internationally acclaimed portfolio of work which covers diverse genres including: music, dance, performance, fashion, landscape, food and travel will be regularly added to the website.
A trailblazer of the photography industry – Haughton has built a stellar reputation throughout his storied career across the various industries he shoots for. His work has been exhibited in a diverse variety of locations, including the UK, Ireland, Japan, Spain, Italy, and Russia.
In addition to working with Paul McCartney for more than 20 years, his star-studded client list includes Luciano Pavarotti, Daniel Barenboim, David Bowie, New Order, Plaçido Domingo, Iggy Pop, Erasure, and Duran Duran, to name a few.
He has also worked with exceptional dance and theatre companies through his long association with Lindsey Kemp, which has led to him photographing the Bolshoi and Stanislavsky Ballets, the English National Ballet, Akram Khan, James Thierree, and Michael Clark.
