Katherine Maginnis’ Contemporary Arts Agency helps clients place art at the very heart of interior design. As an art consultant with more than twenty years experience in the visual arts industries, Katherine expertly curates artwork that can enhance the character of its environment. But this is only one facet of Katherine’s role in the art specification process. For Katherine, it all begins with sourcing and nurturing great relationships with artists and artisans from all over the world. As a result, Katherine uses her expert eye to identify new, inspiring artists who have something unique to offer; whether that be experimenting with new techniques, using unconventional mediums or exploring materials in innovative ways.
For emerging artists however, it can be difficult to navigate the complex nature of the art industry at the beginning of their careers. This is where Katherine steps in to help advise and guide young artists through their professional journey.
Katherine has most recently agreed to represent emerging artist, Shahina Jaffer. She will assist Shahina with curating and contextualising her work to help find an audience and positioning that resonates with her.
Shahina works as a marketing consultant specialising in consumer research and digital transformation. Her exposure to brand marketing and advertising has given her invaluable insight into communication, visual language decoding and perceptions. Graduating from St Martin’s School of Art, she now has a studio on the Old Kent Road. Her works are based on the practical exploration of perception – a fascination which is informed by her career in consumer marketing.
By harnessing her diverse background in art and marketing, Shahina produces a body of work which is based on her intellectual interpretation of these two, distinct experiences. With a focus on the exploration of movement – allowing paint to flow, uninterrupted, without interference – she uses paint and water as a conductive energy. By applying imagination, nature and science in a precise fashion, her work breaks traditional boundaries and reveals a deeper meaning that can be easily overlooked at a glance. She ultimately strives to expand the image beyond the mind’s limitation and preconditioning.
Shahina is set to present her unique perspective with an interactive talk, The Art of Perception at TEDxGoodenoughCollege 2019 on 1st June 2019. She believes that art should be an interactive experience, where the viewer goes on a personal journey; seeing form and details based on their perception to spark their own, individual imaginations. Her talk will explore how perception shapes not only what we see but also how we observe, using art as a stimulus.
We’re excited to begin our journey with Shahina. To keep up her with her creative and professional progress with Katherine Maginnis, follow @k_maginnis for updates and see more on her upcoming TEDx talk.
